Athletics excels in UAA competition
Washington University is a founding member of and competes in the University Athletic Association, along with Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Emory, New York, and Rochester universities. Since the league’s establishment, Washington University teams have won 124 UAA titles. Many of our teams are nationally prominent in NCAA Division III: The women’s basketball team became the second in NCAA women’s basketball history to win four consecutive national championships in 2001, the women’s volleyball team has won nine national championships since 1989, and every team has made a recent NCAA Tournament appearance. Several thousand students, faculty, and staff members participate in intramural and recreational sports.
