Top-ranked again for fiscal management A four-star rating from Charity Navigator—America's largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities–is the highest possible designation an organization can receive for sound fiscal management. For the sixth consecutive year in 2007, Charity Navigator recognized Washington University as one of its top-rated, four-star institutions. The University is one of only 45 charities among the more than 5,000 evaluated—and one of just 18 institutions of higher education—to have been accorded a four-star rating each year since Charity Navigator's inception in 2001. Charity Navigator evaluates two broad areas of an organization's financial health: organizational effectiveness and organizational capacity. The first measures an organization's fund-raising results against fund-raising, program, and administrative expenses. The latter measures how well the organization has sustained its programs and services over time and whether it can continue to do so. Washington University's consistent four-star rating underscores its commitment to fiscal responsibility and sound management practices in stewarding the resources given to it.
