Cultural activities
The University presents performances, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, symposia, and other cultural activities open to the St. Louis community.
- Edison Theatre in Mallinckrodt Center showcases high-quality, innovative artists in theater, dance, and music, as well as stages Performing Arts Department theater and dance productions.
- The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, with a permanent collection of more than 3,000 pieces, organizes special loan exhibitions, presents traveling shows and installations from the collection, and displays faculty and student works.
- The Center for the Humanities in Arts & Sciences publishes a monthly St. Louis literary calendar, and sponsors conferences and readings.
- Major speakers: The University, its schools and departments, and many campus organizations sponsor lectures, readings, conferences, colloquia, and master classes. The Assembly Series brings leading scholars, authors, artists, and other national and international public figures to campus.
- Music performances: The Department of Music presents faculty and student concerts and recitals, and sponsors music ensembles open to the public.
University libraries
Washington University's 12 libraries (10 on the Danforth Campus, one at the medical school, and one at West Campus) bring fine collections, great facilities, and expert librarians within easy reach of students, faculty, and visiting scholars. The stunning John M. Olin Library stands at the center of campus. Its location, diverse study spaces, technology center, exhibition space, and a café offering 24-hour study space make it one of the most popular destinations on campus. New libraries serve the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and the Earth & Planetary Sciences Department. Several other libraries have been renovated.
On-site, the Libraries offer more than 4 million books, periodicals, government publications, rare books, literary manuscripts, and audio-visual titles. Online, the Libraries provide access to thousands of databases, journals, and other digital resources, some created here at the University. Online access allows students and faculty to do research, search the catalog, request or renew books, or read reserve materials from nearly anywhere at any hour.

Information Technology
Information about the University is available via the Web at www.wustl.edu.
- Wi-fi is available to the University community in the Libraries, common spaces, many schools and departments, and residential buildings.
- All student residential rooms on-campus also have in-room wired network connections and cable television. Most off-campus University-owned apartments also have wired network connections.
- Each school and some departments provide computing and networking facilities appropriate to their disciplines.
- Students can view courses, register for classes, access directory information, and view their grades from any computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser.
- Computer clusters with network access are available throughout the University.
- E-mail, available to every member of the University community, links the community and provides electronic access to the world.
