Athletics excels in UAA competition

Washington University is a founding member of and competes in the University Athletic Association, along with Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Emory, New York, and Rochester universities.

Since the league’s establishment, Washington University teams have won 133 UAA titles. Many of our teams are nationally prominent in NCAA Division III: The women’s basketball team won four consecutive national championships in 1998-2001. The women’s volleyball team has won nine national championships since 1989. Since 2008, the men's basketball team has won consecutive national titles and the men's tennis team were national champions.

Several thousand students, faculty, and staff members participate in intramural and recreational sports.
